“Moooooommmmm!!!” I heard a high-pitched voice come from
outside the door, waking me up from my surprisingly peaceful sleep…
To find my back pressed against Bart’s bare chest.
“Ack!” I shrieked, rolling over and falling off the bed, the
thump waking Bart up from his
slumber.
“Yo, hey,” Bart rubbed his eyes sleepily. “You okay?” He
reached a hand down to help me up, which I reluctantly grabbed.
“Yeah, I’m fine.” I sighed, rubbing my head to check if I
had a concussion. Nope. I’m fine.
Apparently, “plenty of room” didn’t include adult rooms.
There was one room for adults, with one full sized bed. Thus, Bart and I had to
share a bed.
Bart was wearing only pajama pants. My eyes roamed to his
toned chest, noticing every perfect
little detai—
What was I saying.
Bart noticed my staring, giving a slight chuckle before
winking a perfect little wi—
Stop.
“C’mon, you’ve seen me naked before, Ars.” He laughed,
hopping off the bed and putting on a shirt. “Don’t be so shocked.”
“Moooooooooommmmmm!!” I heard another shout coming from the
hallway.
“Ugh, yeah?” I opened the door, seeing Merida and Rapunzel
in the hallway, fully dressed and looking like they were ready to go somewhere.
“Can we go to the park?” She smiled, giving me her best we love you please please pleaaasseee look
she could.
I looked towards Bart, my eyes tired and bored. “Do we have
to?” I groaned. I haven’t been anywhere in the town yet, but to be honest, I
didn’t really want to, either. I was perfectly happy staying in my house with
my kids and Bart.
“Yes, we do.” Bart laughed. “Go downstairs and get ready,
kids. We’ll leave once everyone’s dressed.” Bart smiled at the kids and slid
the door closed. He leaned back against
the door and gave me a wink, a smile spreading across his face. “Go on, you
have to get dressed.”
“Oh, shut up.” I laughed and threw a shirt from the clothes
drawer at him, before leaving the room and heading to the bathroom. I took a
shower, threw on some clean clothes, and went downstairs where everyone was
dressed.
“C’mon, let’s go!” Bart beamed, quickly turning around and
running face-first into the door. Rapunzel and Merida giggled, and Bart rubbed
his forehead, which had a red mark on it. “Ow! That hurt!”
“You,” I breathed in between laughs. “Are an idiot.” Bart
stuck out his tongue and rolled his eyes before opening the door and gesturing
outside.
“Now, are we okay to go?” He asked, eyeing my expression.
“Yeah,” I sighed, feigning annoyance. “But we need to make a
stop on the way.”
The stop we needed to make was at the hospital so I could
get an Artificial Insemination. After I was ready, we headed off to the park.
“So,” Bart sighed, shutting the car door when we arrived,
kneeling down to look at Merida and Rapunzel. “You two go and play, Mommy and I
will be over there,” he pointed towards the swing set.
“Okay, Daddy!” Merida kissed Bart on the cheek, and the
girls ran off to the playground.
“Okay, so…” Bart turned around and looked at me, where I was
holding back a laugh. “What?”
“So, we’re ‘Mommy and Daddy’ now?” I chuckled, elbowing him
in the ribs.
“Well, uh…” Bart seemed flustered.
“It’s fine.” I laughed. “They are your kids, too, Bart.” I sat down on the swing, and Bart sat on
the one next to me. “Do you like being ‘Daddy’?” I joked, pushing the swing
towards him.
“Yeah,” Bart answered, catching me off guard. “Yeah, I do.”
“Well, I like you being Daddy, too.” I pushed the swing
closer to him, suddenly aware of the decreasing distance between us.
The leaves rustled in the distance, and the chains of the
swings creaked as the swings rotated a beneath us. I could smell the brewing coffee and baking
bread from the café around the corner, and smell the flowers in the park.
“So,” I breathed, my voice barely audible.
“So…” Bart laughed, bringing his hand to brush a strand of
hair out of my face. “If you’re going to kiss me, you should probably do it
already.”
“Now, why would I want to kiss you?” I sighed, my voice less
audible than before.
“Because I’m flawless,” He joked, his voice choppy with
nerves
“No, you’re clumsy,” I joked, bringing both my hands to his
chest, playfully slapping him. “And there’s a flaw.”
“Really,” He caught my hands, keeping them on his chest. “I
think it’s one of my greatest charms.”
“Hmmm,” I sighed, gliding my hands up the fabric of his
shirt, resting them on his shoulders. “Is it now?”
“Yes ma’am.” He
gently slid his hands down to my hips, lifting me up off my swing as the chains
rattled back to their place.
“So,” I whispered, letting out a slight chuckle.
“So,” He breathed back, locking eyes with me and closing the
distance between us, our lips meeting. I wrapped my arms around his neck,
enjoying the softness of his lips, and the warmth of his body pressing into
mine. I traced the lines of his shirt with my fingers before bringing them back
to his warm chest, pulling away.
“Bart, I…” I was speechless. I didn’t know what to say, but
I felt guilty. Guilty because I was
kissing someone so shortly after Brandon’s death.
But didn’t you kiss
him before? Hell, you slept with him.
“You what?” He looked worried, like he was afraid that I’d
take it all back, saying that I regretted it.
“I…” I stuttered, trying to think of something to say, but
couldn’t think of anything. “Nothing.” I brought my lips back down to his,
which he eagerly responded to.
“Ahemm…” I heard a voice purposely cough behind us, making
us break our kiss and look in that direction. “Hello.”
Before us stood a red-haired, violet-eyed man that I
recognized, but it took me a while to figure out who he was because it’s been a
while since I’d seen him.
“Justin?” I said, my eyes wide in shock. My ex-boyfriend
from high school was standing in front of me and Bart as we were kissing.
“Hey,” He waved. “Nice to see you. Is this your, uh,
boyfriend?”
“N-No!” I hastily replied, before noticing that I was still
sitting in Bart’s lap. I got up, blushing, and sat down back on my swing.
“Oh, he isn’t?” Justin replied, raising an eyebrow. “Cause
it seemed you two were pretty close there for a second…”
“Can you, uh, give us a minute?” I smiled towards Bart.
“Yeah, sure.” He got up, the swing rattling from the release
in pressure. “I’ll go find the kids.” Bart lingered for a moment, before
wandering off to find the twins.
“Kids?” Justin asked, his eyebrow raised higher than before.
“Uh, you didn’t know?” I was shocked. I honestly thought
everyone in my group of friends knew by this point. “Well, I guess not. Things
kind of ended a bit… rocky for us, yeah?” I laughed, nudging Justin in the
stomach, but he looked like he wasn’t in the mood for jokes. “Okay, well. I’ve
been doing a 100 Baby Challenge. It’s where-”
“Yeah, I know what it is.” Justin interrupted. “Neat. Never
pegged you as the kinda girl to do that.”
“What do you mean, ‘kinda girl’?” I angrily glared at him.
“Chill!” Justin laughed. “Just, not the children type. Didn’t
you hate your parents for bringing you into the world under the circumstances
or something? Figured you’d not want to have children.”
“Oh.” I calmed back down, my eyes making their way to the
ground. “So, why are you here? In Italy?”
“Medical School sent me here for some experience in other
countries. Kinda got used to it and stayed.” He explained. “Hey, I heard about
Brandon and Gene. I am so sorry. I wish I could’ve gone to the funerals, but as
you said… Things ended a bit rocky. Didn’t think I’d be welcome.”
“Justin, what happened between us is in the past. You know
that.” I sighed. “It’s great to have another friend here. My bridges are
burning kind of fast now-a-days.”
“Yeah, I’m glad, too.” Justin smiled at me. “Hey, call me
when you need a challenge father, alright? I’m more than willing. They can do
AIs at the hospital.”
“Yeah, I know.” I laughed, putting a hand on my stomach. “I
got one today, actually.”
“Cool. I’ve gotta get to home to my girlfriend. See you
later, Ariel.” He smiled, and before we left we exchanged phone numbers.
A little while later, I gave birth to one boy, who I named
Chris.
